Sehwag is out !!

So the Indian cricket team is announced with Sachin as deputy to Dravid. Some expected & unexpected moves. While some big names are left out, unexpected ones have joined the team.

For one thing I am happy that Virender Sehwag is out of the team. In spite of his non-performance for quite long, he was sitting prettily (yeah, that’s a word) in the team. According to me he should have been shown the door even before the start of South Africa series. We repeated the same mistake as we did in the past with Laxman & Ganguly, we had kept them for too long just because they were seniors/captain of the team.
Sehwag has to realize that he was not with the team just to fill up a vacant place. Being one of the seniors he should try to become ideal for youngsters and instead he led the youngsters in ransacking the dressing room after
India’s win over South Africa for which board has to foot the bill now.

Kaif is always the most unfortunate one in spite of being one of the best fielders. I sympathize with him. When he is out of form, he is out anyways & when in form, some other seniors are also in form making him sit out of the team. His flying catch (almost snatching from the hands of Hemang Badani) is still fresh in my mind. Everyone including Badani had wondered where the ball, his sunglasses & cap had gone. :))
Though currently Jaffer is in form (better than Veeru), he had to make way for Robin Uthappa/ Gambhir, probably selectors thought he would not be good in ODIs. Laxman had to go out, not made for ODIs (It’s another thing that I think he’s not even made for test matches. ;) )
Spin department is not at its best with Kumble taking rest. Romesh Powar is the new ‘passenger’ accompanying the team and Harbhajan is not as brilliant and assertive as Kumble. The board has to find out a replacement for Kumble for long run.

Also, it is good if young bright ones like Ishant Sharma are not in final 15 players. In team India they have very little to do other than carrying water & bats to the field where in U-19 they at least have a chance to play and perform.

All in all, a good selection. Let us wish Indian team a very Good Luck.

How can I get you wrong when you ARE wrong ??

girls and cricket.. forget it..basically one cannot help it, when it comes to genuine manufacturing defects... First, don’t generalize anything. I don’t think you have read all my posts. I am not going to justify anything to you but by now you should have known that I am a female with difference, with a different attitude.
Not brag-mouthing but that’s how I think about myself. Some defect again ?? Girls are not supposed to think, right ?

I agree with you when you say about manufacturing defects ... yes, it is there in the heads of guys like you.

Rahi baat cricket ki.... I bet you would not have followed the game as much as I did or do. When not allowed to disturb others early in the morning for matches against Australia (FYI, Australia is 5 & 1/2 hrs ahead of us), I used to keep a transistor near my pillow to listen to commentary at a very low volume.

P.S. Please go through my earlier posts to help yourself make an opinion about me.

Now, I can also say... Don’t get me wrong. :))))))))))))) Enjoy !!!

@topic...

He deserves it.It wont be long b4 his wife's sister(his manager or whatever) comes on Natl TV saying that its unfair and blah blah blah....
I guess its not the time for youngsters to make their debut now cos time is short and certainly not the time to tinker around with players morale etc.

Seriously speaking the country needs to look upto other sports as well.Sunil Dutt himself said rightly that no country can be an economic powerhouse without being a sporting one......

@ur comment

Was my fault as well i guess. Was more satarical in earlier blog and did enjoy poking fun at our netas.....Aug/Sep it was when the government cracked down.Remember the time when we could not access our blogs...and there was a temporary censor....
A bit more serious now....
U've around quite a while .

And how can I forget those days ?? It was the time when I stepped into the blogworld, all alone (I didn’t know anything, anyone in the blogworld) and was too confused to react.

impressive post... girls and cricket, as Alok said , GENERALLY don't go well...
I mean i have heard girls say... 'why did they drop dravid. he is soooo cute'.. AND 'Dravid is smart..ok.. but he is not a good player..'
now what impression do u think i will have of girls on cricket...

But here, I am with you on every point u have made. except that- Laxman acc to me is fine in Tests..
and Kumble should play ODI till World Cup atleast... He is much much better than the likes of Munaf Patel...who I think is the worst player in world cricket right now... there will be dozens in the domestic circuit better than him in all deptt of the game...
sorry.. i started my own blog here.. but with cricket, it starts getting emotional!!!

Cuckoo said...

SiD,
I fully agree with you when it comes to girls & cricket, why only cricket, most of the sports. But there are always exceptions (exceptionally exceptions) and I think by now you must have known where I belong to ;) (If not, you better do it) Ha Ha.. warna Alok wala haal hoga.

Well, to come to the point.. yes, I have seen girls accompanying their BFs to stadium for watching cricket (actually just to impress their BFs) or at home munching on pop-corns and asking “when is he going to hit a goal?”. I simply pity them and their boyfriends (for having such dumbs by their sides).

Also, it does not mean that all the guys are excellent in knowledge of cricket. Not talking about people like you in general but the ones who listen /watch matches at some shop/kiosk. Do they really know what a mid-wicket / long-ff/long-on is? What is a cover-drive ? Do they know the difference between a gulley or short third man or which side of the wicket they are, off or on ?
For them cricket is India’s win, Sachin’s century, Sehwag’s sixes and so on. If these players don’t comply with this demand they face the risk of getting their houses attacked.

These people don’t and can’t see beyond that. How the pitch & other conditions were, how the opponent team was placed, .. nothing matters to them. Do you think they are better than girls ? At least girls admit they are dumbos. These people don’t. :)))

And I'll appreciate the people (irrespective of their gender) who don't comment here if they don't know about cricket. From others, I want bagfuls. ;)

Ohh like you I can also go on & on .. :))

P.S. - except that- Laxman acc to me is fine in Tests… Well, since you are a different individual, you ought to have a different view. I welcome it. :))

Hello Cuckoo! In never watch cricket... but it was interesting to read that you are so insightful about cricket team.... :)

Ketan said...

well, sehwag has given some good performances in test cricket over the years so i thought its okay to continue him with test team. in ODIs its best to give him some rest.
Above all, I would say we have talent, but we need training, both mental and physiscal. I dont think changing people will do any good. they are all the same more or less. what we need is to get the best out of what we have. Its similar to saying that hiring and firing wont help a company grow but appropriate nurturing would.

COOL!! i want to see cricket too!
hard to understand thooo..(^o^);;

SiD said...

well... fortunately I have never come across Men who don't have good idea of cricket.. I mean, I know such people (my father is the first person who comes to mind) but then they don't unnecessarily comment about it - Unlike many Girls if I may add..

and regd the ones who pelt stones and all...they are the ones who would do the same if kaif doesn't perform or if Rajkumar dies or if Amir Khan supports narmada bachao andolan.. these people should be hit for a six..

And ya... i guess if you are passionate abt something u can go talking abt it endlessly...

sometimes i feel our cricket team is going the way..We have too much money in it that sometimes the game takes a back seat..Hope someone comes and cleans up the entire system..

History has very often pointed that selections have never happened based on form or talent..But Sehwag seems to be a move in the right direction..

btw..the camera was a DSC H2..saw ur travel blog..wanna see a entry on italy!!:-)

Cuckoo said...

Sunil,
Thank you very much. So honestly you said so.

Ketan,
Yes, I agree but off late I think it had become too much for the team. Also, he is very unpredictable. Actually, he is more of an ODI player than test match. In my opinion, he has to come out of over confidence and laziness (both physical & mental).

Niki,
i want to see cricket too! hard to understand thooo... Lollll you are soooo cute girl.

SiD,
fortunately I have never come across Men who don't have good idea of cricket… You are lucky, go & listen/watch near a paanwala shop.

these people should be hit for a six… LOLLL

Mathew,
But Sehwag seems to be a move in the right direction… I agree.

saw ur travel blog..wanna see a entry on italy!!.. Wait !! And it’ll definitely be more than one entry on Italy. Let me see in which order I dig out the pictures, right now it is Antwerp. :)
Thanks. Keep visiting both the blogs.

I agree with u on sehwag... he should have been shown the door a while back.. the only series he has performed in in the past 2 years i think was the one against pakistan...
I wish kumble would play but if he needs the rest before the WC then so be it...
I agree about kaif.. they dont keep him on the freakin team long enough for him to do anything much less prove something... i mean look at the chances they give sehwag and what does kaif nada zip zilch..
The changes seem good but not enough... time i think before the WC for it to make a difference.
You cannot take novice players and stick em in right before and say perform..
we are in trbl but then i hold out hope...we didnt seem to perform well with a good team maybe we will with a shell shocked one

Enjoyed your take. I used to watch the game a lot in pre-betting scandal days. Not any more.

But yes, whatever I see, I too sometimes seeth at the way they play and I wonder why in huge country like ours where cricket is the religion, they can't find replacements?

Ketan said...

Actually, he is more of an ODI player than test match
Sehwag averages 49.46 in test and 31.28 in ODI. He has 12 test centuries that include a triple a double and a score of 195. In ODI he has 7 centuries on his name.
Now tell me if he is ODI or test player? :-o

Cuckoo said...

Fleiger,
looks like Sehwag is new Ganguli, maybe minus the attitude.. Yeah, you are right.

Sugarlips,
Yes, India-Pakistan is always THE best to watch.. the excitement is always at the highest level.

I'm getting addicted to your current song selection... Good good. Thank you. Songs or the idea?

Prashanth,
not that much of a cricket follower..…> Which sports do you follow then?

just switch to sports channel, check score and the sleep... I can be awake the whole night. :P

Cuckoo said...

Keshi,
and with any cricketers? Ha ha.. No, all good ones are already been taken. ;)

Mridula,
Thank you very much.

wonder why in huge country like ours, they can't find replacements?.. I also wonder.

Ketan,
Now tell me if he is ODI or test player?... Well, I don’t go by records. I feel he lacks concentration many times for longer period which is so important for a test player. Whenevr he has scored big in tests, he had to do it for the sake of being in the team or for records. Do you remember his triple century and who was there to give him company & had asked him to concentrate and be on the crease?
Moreover, he is not a classic copybook cricketer like Dravid or Sachin. He has the power to hit sixes but can't play classy wristy shots. In ODI one gets away with concentration of shorter span.
If I make a test team, he will not find a place in that. :)

Ketan said...

"he is not a classic copybook cricketer like Dravid or Sachin. He has the power to hit sixes but can't play classy wristy shots."
copybook cricket and ability to play wristy shots are not the qualifications to get into team.

"Do you remember his triple century and who was there to give him company & had asked him to concentrate and be on the crease?"
How does it matter? Every partner will motivate other partner. But not everyone scores big.

"Whenever he has scored big in tests, he had to do it for the sake of being in the team or for records."
funny, very funny. this is for the very first time in his career that his position in team was in danger. after scoring a 100 in his first test innings, he was never dropped or was never in danger of being dropped. He has scored big in only winning causes for India except for his Melbourne 195, and not for records.

"I feel he lacks concentration many times for longer period" no body in the Indian test cricket history has hit a triple century, ever.

"I don’t go by records."
I am talking about past performances and not records. If you do not go by records then what do you go by?

"If I make a test team, he will not find a place in that."
good that you are not a selector. If you were by any chance, you would have been kicked out for sure.

Sorry I was away. Hmmm.. well, that's my view about Sehwag and I am not his big fan. As I said you are free not to agree with me. But I like your arguments. :)

Anyways, you can read my latest post on cricket. It won't be feasable to answer you here.
